Chloe Chene
Chêne by Chloé EDP
Chêne is French for oak. Not the idea of oak, not oak as a supporting note buried in the base oak as the actual subject of the fragrance. Chloé launched this in 2023, and it's one of the more grounded things the house has done: a fragrance built around a tree, and what it actually smells like to stand underneath one.
Created by perfumer Alexis Dadier, Chêne is a Floral Woody Musk fragrance for women and men. It opens with oak leaves, laurels, lily of the valley, bergamot, and mandarin orange green and slightly damp, the way a forest smells after rain. The lily of the valley keeps it from going too dark, adding a clean, white-floral brightness that lifts the whole opening.
The heart is where the oak takes over. Oak, Atlas cedar, and African orange flower build something that feels genuinely woody not the synthetic cedar of most mass-market fragrances, but something with real texture and depth. The orange flower adds a soft, honeyed quality that keeps the wood from feeling dry or austere.
The base settles into sandalwood, musk, and vanilla warm, creamy, and skin-close. It's the kind of dry-down that makes the fragrance feel like it belongs on you rather than on top of you.
Chêne wears well across seasons. In cooler weather, the wood and musk come forward; in warmer months, the citrus and florals stay brighter longer. A considered, unhurried fragrance from a house that usually leans more overtly feminine.
